What is the purpose of the Foundation?

The Heralds of Harmony Charitable Foundation was established to ensure the long-term vitality of the Tampa Bay Heralds of Harmony Chorus and its many programs that serve the educational, charitable and entertainment needs of the greater Tampa Bay community. As a contributor to the Foundation you can have a part in perpetuating this wonderful style of singing. You can also help support the Herald's many outreach programs, public performances and other community activities that contribute to and support many civic, charitable and arts organizations.

The Foundation fills many needs

Some examples of how the Foundation's proceeds might be used include scholarships and other financial aid for youth to enable them to learn and enjoy vocal music. Foundation funds will also enable the Heralds of Harmony to undertake charitable and community outreach programs, such as benefit concerts and educational programs that would be otherwise impossible.

Although the Herald's own grant program, paid performances, membership dues and their own show productions generate significant revenue, periodic supplemental funding is needed for new projects and for continued musical development.

Giving can take many forms and serve many purposes:

Immediate, current giving

Direct giving creates an obvious and immediate tax deduction for the donor since the Foundation is fully qualified as a 501(c)(3) corporation. Immediate giving can take the form of cash, marketable goods and property of all kinds including securities, annuities, real estate, collections, art, jewelry, vehicles, boats, and any other tangible or intangible property that has market value. The Foundation will arrange all the details associated with making an in-kind gift of property worry-free and convenient for the donor. A gift of appreciated property subject to capital gains taxation can be particularly advantageous ot the donor, since the transfer of title establishes a new cost basis for the asset to the Foundation while the donor captures the asset's full current market value as a tax deduction.

Deferred future giving

There are many ways to make a gift that will be realized at some future date with minimum impact on the donor's current financial status. Assigning the ownership or beneficiary of an existing or newly purchased life insurance policy to the Foundation creates a sizable future gift to the Foundation with a modest annual premium for the donor. Pension, Keogh accounts and IRAs can also be assigned in whole or in part to the Foundation. Charitable Remainder Trusts are particularly useful where a donor wishes to leave part of an estate to the Foundation upon his or her death, while enjoying substantial income from the trust throughout their life.

The Foundation is managed by people who care about music

The Heralds of Harmony Charitable Foundation board of directors is composed of past presidents of the Tampa Bay Heralds of Harmony Chorus. The Foundation's principal fund is professionally managed and the board of directors approve all disbursements.
